Firaaq Movie review ; Nandita Das's Directorial Venture

Nandita Das has turned filmmaker, The actress was superb in her acting career and did quite a good realistic cinema and was know for her brains. Now she has turned out to be a creator of a movie FIRAAQ. This movie deals with the lives of common people after the Gujarat riots there feelings and how there life changed after it and how people cope with the tragedy.

The movie talks about six different stories each one totally different from another and it touches your heart and it asks you chilling questions without taking sides and is powerful in its impact.

There is a story about loyalty of two best friends being challenged in tough times about fear and suspicion. A housewife closes the door and does not give shelter to another women who was seeking refuge but is still facing the guilt and cant overcome it. A group of young men takes revenge out of anger and frustration. Another Story is about a Hindu-Muslim couple who tries to hide there true identities. Another story is about a boy searching for his father who has lost his entire family in the riots. Then there is a story about a musician who clings on to his ideals but his shaken by his faith.

The first scene of the movie shows a truck emptying dead bodies like its a debris and that pinches you and hurts you the most. All the stories moves in parallel but it does not give you any solution or culmination of them it only raises your subconsciousness it does not answer anything it shows the things as they are in real world.

The actors are all top class right from Deepti Naval, Shahana Goswami till Nasserdudin shah. FIRAAQ is a very good serious kind of movie. If you like reality and wants to question your conscience and get it disturbed and wants your mind to raise so many serious thought provoking questions then this movie is for you.
